Around the globe, marijuana or also termed as cannabis has been known as an illegal plant that is used for drug abuse by negligent users. For many years, it has been banned in almost all countries because of its abusive properties. However, it was not recognized as a herbal medicine, which was its primary purpose. Medical marijuana or cannabis as it is more appropriately called, is the use of cannabis and its constituent cannabinoids , which is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), in its leaves, buds and flowers for the treatment of certain illnesses and many symptoms.

It also plays a role in the brain’s activities on memory and sleep. Thus, it aids in inducing sleep for people suffering from insomnia. Another substance is Cannabidiol which is believed and studied to relieve convulsions, anxiety and nausea. It is potent to relieve symptoms of illnesses like Multiple Sclerosis and even Tourette Synrdrome.
In history, marijuana has been used as a relief for many discomforts affecting people like nausea, vomiting and pain. Today, it has been proven to be have potential medical abilities like treating nausea, glaucoma, inducing appetite especially in patients undergoing chemotherapy and in curing gastrointestinal illnesses. However, many people still regard this plant as something immoral and illegal.
There are, however, some countries who permit use of marijuana for medical reasons and made a law legalizing the use and possession of this plant. In the United States, eight out of the ten states had legalized the use of medical marijuana and physicians often use or prescribe it for patients undergoing chemotherapy and patients with AIDS. It is an effective pain reliever, cure for nausea and appetite booster for cancer patients and at the same time can lessen eye pressure for glaucoma patients. Many Americans are in favor of the government allowing the use of marijuana for medical purposes but are confused with the mode of usage. Because it is mostly used by smoking it, they are wondering if it has negative effects on the lungs. However, medical marijuana is administered to patients through inhalers, pills and sometimes it is even incorporated in baked goods or biscuits.
It creates a negative notion among people and it overweighs the medical abilities it possesses that can aid in the cure and treatment of many people around the globe. It is very important to disseminate information about this wonder plant so that more people can benefit from its helpful uses especially in the field of medicine.
